I made a new tribe, for helping with the wiki. I noticed that, in the beginning, the food balance issue is not that much of a problem. But as soon as you get more and more families, the economy is unbearable. The only way to survive is to exploit the "caravan food turn for 3 gold" exploit. Each turn, you can make 5 gold in the settlement. After the caravan has returned, you will have enough for at least that amount of turns in "food turns".

I talked about this in another thread. Supposedly, all the food becomes "turns of food" at some point. This is a problem.

Foraging doesn't give its value in food to the amount of turns of food except after a huge reduction of value. Then when a new clan joins, the same amount of turns remain in the "stockpile". It would be much better if turns of food was not a hard value, but rather a calculated soft value.

Also, the caravans give turns of food for each food item. The caravans should give a hard value in food rather than a hard value in turns.

This problem involves cattle and things like honey. If they can be consumed as food, they now automatically become turns of food (except, as I said earlier, not proportionately to what a hassle it is to gather that food).

A few more screens where you can control how much is used and how, would be nice. Just an advice.

... at least in that game "one item is worth one other item".

To be fair, games become simplistic when they just use ghost items to do things. But what I mean is that the caravan and the resource gathering is broken.

My main point was that it's good that, when one element of the game is broken, that at least the caravan works. It's a way to explore the game when it's not yet finished.

So I found that the caravan, although game breaking at this moment, really makes the game possible to continue playing. Why? Because the game does not seem to reward getting your own food at the moment. It is almost as if one part of the game is different from another part of it.

I compare this to how important the trading depot is in Dwarf Fortress... In dwarf fortress, the player can sell useless crafts and other items and so fill up the fort's need for things to eat. It's still an unbalanced mess... at least in that game "one item is worth one other item".

AtG - General Discussion / Re: Few observation after first game.

I have a similar idea like that of masterdinadan. I observed that, in my save, the food doesn't scale up as much as the caravan's sold food does. The caravan's food is enough for one turn per food item, whereas farming 15 food items still had me stuck in famine.
*added* -> Note that it seems like food items do not go into the stockpile. The game is not entirely unit based, so sometimes there is a multiplier that ruins the economy. In other words, the game is not balanced.

*added* I counted a little on it, and I found out that 18.9 apples (or something) gave me 0.5 less food reduction. Also, I never get the food to begin with so it's just slightly reducing a very small amount to begin with. I would rather have 18.9 apples than 18.9 food, and I would also rather have 18.9 food than 0.5 food.

*disclaimer* I know that this is just a request for more features. Features in form of balance improvements.

I wonder how the hunger system works. I would like to help by making a wiki page about hunger and famine in ATG.
*added* also I need to know why the game starts out saying that the food use is always -1
*added* it also seems that famine doesn't kill your characters clans, only lack of supply does
*added* I managed to upgrade the caravan so that I could buy 30 wheat, which solved the problem ingame
